Emerald is a creepy ass character, and when she can communicate with Victor telepathically… just no, she is so annoying. What I hated about this book is that it was Victor and Emerald centric and it was just terrible. What I did like about it was the fact that we got to explore new lands, explore more about Victors powers, the new villains, the big bad villain, a few hilarious scenes and Grumpy. I know I go off a bit on this series, but the reason why I do is because I see so much potential in it and there are many good parts, however the bad outweighs the good. After reading it it’s pretty much the same old same old thing with nothing that exciting and what I mean about that is that there’s really no sense of danger, it’s just sort of boring at this point. Tamer: king of dinosaurs 6 was fine, but wasn’t the best book of the series it actually was probably the worse. I love this series which is why I may sound harsh.

These are just my small, personal gripes out of hundreds of pages of awesomeness. I fear the abyss is gazing back into Victor. And then not dwell much on it afterwards. I think the scene could be improved had Victor simply clubbed him to death out of anger within a minute or two (like Kratos from God of War does it sometimes) instead of deliberate torture. But torturing someone because Emerald sacrificed her clone and gave Victor a huge scare? Getting vital information could be another defendable purpose for torture. Nothing to do with politics, as I could understood the torture scene in the 'Re:Monster' manga where the protagonist tortured one dissenter in front of a crowd in order to set an example and scare them into obedience. He could just said something like 'I placed among the top 5 percentile in North America' and be done with it, but he went on for a bit too long repeating the 'Korean player' joke from a previous book.Īnd finally I thought the torture scene was gratuitous and awkward. Now I'm getting nitpicky, but the way he described his strategy game skills bothered me. I think giving the first kills at least a bit more weight would help raise the tension and sympathy.

(I know he killed that blade-ring guy with his trike, plus those guys who had Tannin in self-defense, among others.) But stalking and murdering someone up-close with your own hands is something else still.

I also feel like his journey from a meek animal catcher into a trained assassin here could have been developed a bit better. (I could always see how Trel was doing it as a sort of overcompensation for denigrating him when they first met.) Overall another great entry in the series and I'm dying to know what happens next!Īs for criticisms, I do feel like the praise heaped upon Victor became a bit too self-indulgent, possibly because it came from Emerald. I love the characters, action, tension, and especially the climax.
